Where Horses Come First

Horseback Riding Lessons

Anita Kelly offers private English and Western horseback riding lessons for children and adult riders at Equitana Farms Boarding and Riding Stables. Anita's first thought is always for the safety of her students.

The horseback riding lessons are geared towards beginning and intermediate rider with a focus on safety, horsemanship and fun.

The beginner riding lesson starts with instruction in safe handling techniques, horse behavior, grooming, tacking-up, mounting and dismounting. Then a calm well trained horse is selected and we move to the confines of the round pen to work on developing balance, coordination, correct posture, establishing a good seat and leg position. After the student has developed a reasonable amount of balance and coordination in the saddle, the student is introduced to techniques used to control the horse with seat, leg pressure and reins. The student then learn to ask the horse to walk, halt, back and trot with confidence. Anita provides a supportive environment and instruction to help each student progress at their own pace.

The Intermediate riding lesson is held in the arena and the rider learns the necessary skills to successfully manage the horse in all of the gaits. As the rider progresses, a more spirited horse may be introduced.

We recommend that new students arrive 15 minutes prior to their first riding lesson to allow time to read, fill-out and sign required forms. You may want to bring a bottle of water with you, especially during the hot summer months.

Please wear appropriate attire to your riding lessons: boots or closed toed shoes with 1/2" heal, full length jeans or riding pants, comfortable shirt. If you own a riding helmet, please bring it. If not, we will provide a helmet for you. We require all students wear a riding helmet during riding lessons.

Now let's have some fun!
